Parent Category level
Parent Categories in SAM have two different Statuses:
- Active
- Inactive
At the Parent Category level, a Parent Category is Inactive if there is:
- No Subcategory under the Parent Category
- There is only one Subcategory, and it has been Archived
- The Parent Category has been Archived
You can archive Parent Categories in SAM if you do not use these in your Art Centre, and you do not want them to be visible when cataloguing. If the Parent Category is archived, Subcategories under that Parent Category will also be archived. If you would like to include a Parent Category at a later time, you can Restore the Parent Category and it will become Active.
Sub-category level
Within a Parent Category, individual Sub-categories can be Archived.
To Archive a Sub-category, you need to click into it to edit.
Note that what is changed at the Parent category level overrides the Sub-category level. For example, if you have active Sub-categories, but the Parent Category is archived, then those Sub-categories will also be archived.
SAM Training Tip:
If an 'available' artwork cannot be added to a sale, first check if the Sub-category that it is catalogued in is Archived.
- Click on SAM set-up
- Click on Categories
- Search for the artwork’s Sub-category
- Click on the Sub-category
- If the Sub-category has been archived, click Restore
- Click Save
